Sometimes the Ozark's is not caught in the backwoods of Democracy.  Springfield, Missouri is a conservative city that rests on the Springfield plateau overlooking the White River Basin and Ozark's backcounrty to the South.  It is governed by a city council where everyone is free to speak and many often do.

Where the government of Springfield differs from the national and state governments is citizens are elected and serve on the city council for short terms for the best interests of the city and then disappear back into society. There are no career politicians or political machine.

Tonite with reluctance; but with the realization that the 21st century is here.  The City Council of Springfield Voted to Draft an ordinance to Decriminalize small amounts of Marijuana.  This was in response to a valid petition presented by registered voters.
